Our story...so far

As you can already tell by the title of my blog...we are having a baby! We, being my husband Aaron and I...and our 3 cats (if we are being specific). Most people who know us well, know our story, but for those of you who dont, here we go.

Aaron and I met on October 11th, 2002 at a restaurant in Newport Beach, CA. Aaron was a waiter and I was a customer. Long story short, I gave him my number (even though my parents were with me...ruthless!), he called three days later (typical) and we had our first date (2 in one day) the following weekend. Another very long story short, we weren't exclusive until the following October and moved in with each other the very next month (on Thanksgiving Day to be exact). We had about 10 months of bliss before Aaron was deployed to serve in Afghanistan in the fall of 2003. He was one of two Marines to be chosen from his unit to join another unit that had been deployed. The next ten months involved a lot of patience, praying and planning (for how we would celebrate when he got home).

Thankfully, Aaron returned on April 15, 2004, just one month before my college graduation. We had decided that when he returned we would take the summer off together to travel and celebrate him being home. In June we left for a two week trip to Costa Rica. A few days before we were to leave Aaron decided he wanted to take me to see the sunset at another beach that was a good 30 minute drive to get there. The beach has an unbelievable rock you could climb and sit ontop. We made it there by moped (looking like dumb and dumber the entire way) and arrived just before sunset. We ran out to the rock, climbed it and snuggled up to watch the incredible sunset. Before long Aaron was babbling some nervous romantic talk that ended with....so will you marry me? I looked down and he was holding a box with the most beautiful diamond ring in it (apparently you can save up a lot of money while deployed overseas). I said yes, of course!

We were married on October 11th, 2006 (4 years to the day we met) during a sunset ceremony on Oahu, Hawaii. It was by far the best day of both our lives. Of course, that will change the day our baby is born :) We had decided to wait 4-5 years before we had children, just so we could enjoy our time together and be more financially stable. I really had the baby itch as soon as we hit the 3 year mark, but Aaron still wanted to wait. He decided at the end of July that he was ready too....and we were pregnant within 4 weeks. Whoa that was fast! We found out on Sept 20th, after taking 3 home pregnancy tests. Wait 2 minutes my butt! The lines showed up the second I set the test down. Aaron was jumping for joy and I just stood there covering my mouth with my hands and going "oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh". I think the person who seemed the most shocked was my mom. In fact, when I told her there was just silence..."mom, are you there?" She was waiting for my sister to deliver her baby any day and me being pregnant just wasnt on her radar. When I called the doctor a few days later to schedule my appointment, she says "how about October 11th...is that a good day?" Ummm...yes! That is the perfect day. Everything important in our life has happened on that date, might as well see our baby for the first time on that day too.

So, last Monday, on our 4 year anniversary, Aaron and I saw Baby Newsom's heartbeat for the first time. I didnt expect the heartbeat to be so teeny tiny...and fast! We also got our estimated due date of May 30th, 2011. Today we go meet our nurse midwife.

So far pregnancy has been pretty darn hard. It started out fine but as soon as the 7 week mark hit, so did the nausea and extreme tiredness. Oh, and the weird, long and vivid dreams I have every single night. Without fail, as soon as 4pm rolls around, I start getting sick. After having to pull over to throw up on my way home from work on Tuesday, my boss graciously suggested that I start leaving early. I have definitely been taking his suggestion.  As for my belly, it is getting bigger. I finally bought a belly band yesterday so I can still wear my skinny jeans. Belly bands are awesome! It smooths everything out so that no one can tell you have your pants unbuttoned and unzipped. This is probably the only time in my life I will be thrilled not to be able to button my jeans.

Ok, you are probably really tired of reading by now. Sorry people. I didnt go to 5 years of college to get a writing degree for nothing, so get ready. This blog will likely be full of long and detailed posts. There isnt much I wont talk about, so if you are easily offended by TMI stories, then I dont know what to tell ya. Do what my doctor told me..."sit back, relax and enjoy the ride".
